ART AND POETRY CONTEST

High school students in Brooklyn and Queens are invited to share their creative talents by submitting an original poem up to 250 words, or original piece of artwork, no smaller than 8 1/2’’ x 11’’, reflecting the theme, “Keep Christ in Christmas.” Entries will be judged on effectiveness in conveying theme, innovation, and overall impact.

In regard to artistic entries, I cannot emphasize enough that a student's work must be an original concept, design and execution, and may not violate any copyright laws. It may not be copied or reproduced from any existing photo, painting, graphic, advertisement or any other work produced by another person.

Cash prizes will be awarded to the top three entries in each category, totaling six winners in all, with a first prize of $200. All participants will receive a red and green “Keep Christ in Christmas” bracelet. Winning entries will be published in The Tablet’s Dec. 20 issue.

Entry deadline: Friday, Dec. 12 at 5 p.m. One entry per student.

Students may submit their poem/artwork, along with their name, address, telephone number, Youth Ministry Program and school, to:

Keep Christ in Christmas Contest, The Tablet, 310 Prospect Park West, Brooklyn, N.Y. 11215.

Please contact me, Marie Elena Giossi, at 718-965-7300 ext. 2020 or megiossi@thetablet.org, if you have any questions.

We look forward to all of the wonderful ways your students will use their creative skills and imagination to “Keep Christ in Christmas.”

Peace,

Marie Elena Giossi
